Gay Friendly Candidate Poised for NYC Win

The left wing weekly paper Socialist Worker reports that LGBTQIA + friendly candidate Zohran Mamdani, a self-described socialist, looks likely to win the race to become mayor of New York City. New York was full of Mamdani’s blue and yellow stickers and posters during the campaign. A mass rally last Sunday drew up to 13,000 people to the Forest Hills stadium.  Mamdani is a self-described socialist and member of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA).  He promises to freeze rent for millions of New Yorkers and build 200,000 new homes in ten years. He talks about free childcare for under five year olds and a network of low priced, city-owned grocery stores—achieved by a wealth tax on the richest 1 percent.
