Gay Human Rights campaigner Peter Tatchell shares his analysis of the decline fall of authoritarian states in a press release dealing with Iran. Mr Tatchell has long argued that Iran is dangerous internationally as well as to its own citizens. Tatchell says "Mass protests, crushing sanctions & economic freefall have piled huge pressure on Iran’s rulers, with food inflation above 70%. The regime is only surviving because security forces are willing to kill thousands of protesters. Tens of thousands arrested, many facing execution. Authoritarian systems decay slowly, then suddenly — and while Iran isn’t there yet, history shows collapse can come fast when repression finally fails. Mr Tatchell concludes that For the sake of human rights, let's hope the dictatorship collapses quickly."
