LGBT+ Groups Unite as Govt U-Turns on Promise

In breaking news this evening, ITV News says that a document has been leaked to its staff showing that the government intends not to move forward with a ban on anti-gay conversion therapies. The discussion document says that the government will blame the economy and the Russo-Ukrainian conflict for not pressing ahead with previous promises to outlaw the practice, as several other countries have. The document says that the government can expect a backlash from LGBTQIA people, who already feel that the government is disinterested in them. Jayne Ozanne, the progressive Christian activist who has worked hard to challenge homophobic and transphobic religious groups who offer unscientific “reprogramming” to their gay adherents, slammed the government. Atheist activists have also added their horror at the U-turn online. One said “religious LGBTQIA youngsters will continue to be subject to spiritual torture by extremist fundamentalist groups”.
