The magazine, a weekly chronicle of global LGBTQIA+ life and politics since its founding in 1967, issued a press release outlining its mission and the urgent need for economic support to continue its work.

The publication detailed its relentless focus over the past year on documenting every anti-LGBTQ+ policy shift, harmful statement, and threatening federal action. It emphasised that this reporting is driven not by a pursuit of online engagement but by a fundamental commitment to truth. "We do this because the truth matters," the statement read.

As a concrete example, The Advocate cited its coverage of the killing of 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good, a queer mother of three, by an ICE agent. The magazine stated that rather than adopting the initial narrative from the Trump administration—which labelled Good a "domestic terrorist"—its reporting deliberately centred on her life, identity, and the factual circumstances. The Advocate said it stood with Good's loved ones and resisted attempts by far-right groups to discredit her and erase her queer identity.

The publication is now actively seeking donations from its readership and supporters to ensure it can maintain its fearless reporting on queer lives and interests. It has directed those able to contribute to its donations page on its official website.
