ShoutOut Wishes its Listeners a Festive Break Full of Joy

And so the festive season arrives once again. For many LGBTQIA+ People, this is a special time of year, a time to celebrate with chosen family and friends. Hanukkah, the Winter Solstice, Christmas and Kwaanza, to name but a few festivals, fall over the next fortnight. It is a time of happiness and joy.

At the same time, it is an opportunity for us all to put something back in our communities, whether they by our LGBTQIA+ communities or the geographical ones where we live. LGBTQIA+ people are givers of love - just look at how many of us gravitate towards the caring professions. Now, we can expand that circle of love. We can look in on neighbours who live alone, bring a little festive joy. We can reach out to LGBTQIA+ charities that will be putting on free or cheap dinners for single people. We can buy our gifts from ethical, independent shops, progressive bookstores, indie record stores, charity shops and jumble sales. If we are an LGBTQIA+ person of faith, we can work with a progressive faith community to spread love and warmth during the cold dark winter nights. Let's spread some love this festive season and show the world that we are the real embodiment of the spirit of the season. And of course, celebrate too. However you are spending the next few weeks, we wish you a safe and warm break. Go careful on the drink and food but treat yourself as the year changes. Listen to community radio services for entertainment and perhaps have a tipple at a local queer bar. They will appreciate the custom. HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
