It's always been said that one of the things that LGBTQIA people can bring to the world is healing, unity across national and class barriers and care for other humans. So many of us work or volunteer for the caring professions already. Now, we're even achieving unity across the notoriously adversarial divides which characterise the British Parliamentary system. In an unprecedented move, the LGBTQIA groups within the Conservative, Labour, Liberal Democrat and Green Parties have put aside their differences and signed an open letter to the government urging it to fulfil a previous pledge to end HIV transmissions by 2030. The letter advocates better access to healthcare for LGBTQIA people and marginalised groups, and Prep should be rolled out more extensively to preclude onward transmission. Liam Beattie, public affairs officer at the top national HIV Charity the Terrence Higgins Trust, told gay newswire PinkNews that it’s “really significant” to see the four biggest political parties’ LGBT+ groups coming together to get the government to “turn the dial on HIV”.
