In a communique issued via various anarchist and independent underground media websites and radio channels, the Direct Action Cells of the Anarchist Movement in Greece claimed responsibility for an arson attack on the home of a neo-nazi Member of the Parliament in Athens, one Yannis Dimitrokalis, who represents the extreme far right and also homophobic Spartans Party. As some LGBTQIA media in Greece noted, the Nazi party's name is somewhat ironic. They have named themselves after the ancient city of Sparta which celebrated homoerotic love between males in particular. The Spartans party is, however, deeply opposed to LGBTQIA freedom. The Direct Action Cells issued a lengthy statement on the reason for the arson attack, explaining "only a radical struggle can make us a real threat again to face the growing fascist menace both on a societal level and on the street. To make it clear to them what awaits them every time they think they are leaving with or without a European escort." The communique concludes "SOLIDARITY TO ALL ANTIFASCIST POLITICAL PRISONERS IN HUNGARY, GERMANY, BULGARIA AND THE UNITED STATES LET FEAR CHANGE SIDES ONLY THE MILITANT RADICAL STRUGGLE WILL CRUSH FASCISM"
