The respected Anne Frank Trust, which remembers the life of the young Jewish Dutch girl who kept a diary during the brutal years of Nazi occupation of the Netherlands, and who sadly perished at the end of the war in a Nazi death camp, has slammed the right wing talk channel GB News. The rogue channel, which unlike its competitors Sky News or BBC News, does not even attempt to be fair handed in news reporting, had transmitted commentary claiming that LGBTQIA+ people were supportive of paedophilia. This libel is - as we all know - as old as the hills, but it is a pernicious lie that fuels violence. The Anne Frank Trust's CEO, Dan Green, pulled no punches in highlighting how hate speech underpins real violence. He said "“The Anne Frank Trust UK is deeply concerned by comments made on GB News this weekend during a segment discussing London Pride, in which a guest claimed that Pride celebrates and welcomes paedophilia and bestiality alongside LGBTQ+ identities. These claims are false, harmful and promote stereotypes which are deeply dehumanising, and should never be given a national platform. At the Anne Frank Trust UK, we educate young people to understand the causes and consequences of prejudice, and equip them with the knowledge, empathy and confidence to recognise and challenge discrimination in all its forms. Language that stereotypes, vilifies or dehumanises any group risks fuelling prejudice and undermining the dignity that everyone deserves. We stand in solidarity with LGBTQ+ communities and with every young person who heard these words and felt less safe as a result. We call on GB News to take responsibility for the content it broadcasts and to uphold its obligations under Ofcom’s Broadcasting Code.”
