News has broken for all LGBTQIA fans of “The Doctor”. No, not your local GP, but the Time Lord who has been entertaining audiences around the globe since William Hartnell first boarded the TARDIS in 1963. Entertainment website “Digital Spy” reveals some details about the special edition of “Doctor Who” to be aired in November as part of the formal centenary celebrations for the British Broadcasting Corporation, the BBC. In the special episode, called “The Power of the Doctor”, the current and first female incarnation of The Doctor, played by Jodie Whittaker, will face a triumvirate of opponents in the shape of the Daleks, the Cybermen and the Master! But working with her will be sidekick Yaz, and to the delight of sci fi fans everywhere, several faces from the series long history, including Tegan, who travelled with Peter Davison’s incarnation of the Doctor, and Ace, who appeared alongside Sylvester McCoy. It is expected that at the end of the episode, the Doctor will regenerate into a new form, to be portrayed by Ncuti Gatwa, the first black actor to inhabit the TARDIS. Russell T Davies will then resume his old role as the show runner and promises big stories and big stars for Doctor Who’s sixtieth anniversary year, including a special story featuring David Tennant, Catherine Tate, the late Bernard Cribbins and gay acting sensation Neil Patrick Harris.
