Statue of Hero Freddie Unveiled in Korea

24/04/2022

Cable news channel Euronews reports that Brian May has endorsed a statue of the late great bisexual Asian hero Freddie Mercury, which has been unveiled in Jeju island in South Korea.  It’s a labour of love by Queen “superfan” Baek Soon-yeob.  Euronews notes that when the businessman was growing up, South Korea was in the grip of homophobic and brutal dictator Park Chunghee, who even forbade young men from growing their hair.  Pirate copies of Queen’s music was still enjoyed by many fans however.   Mr Baek said he hoped the statue would help "people who criticise sexual minorities to reconsider their views".  In addition, Brian May joined the unveiling of the statue by video link and indicated that in his view, Freddie would endorse the tribute.
