Mr Manilow is married to his manager and came out later in life owing to anxiety about his sexuality affecting his career. Bette Midler helped boost Manilow's career in the seventies and he enjoyed an outrageous residence at the Continental Baths in New York, a legendary seventies gay sauna and bathhouse which was noted for its cleanliness, classiness and music. Manilow officially came out as gay in April 2017, telling People that he was pleasantly surprised to find that his mostly female fan base was supportive of the marriage; he had feared the news would disappoint them.
