Radio Projects Go Rainbow for Pride Month

As June 1st dawned, so did Pride Month. LGBTQIA radio stations have been amplifying queer voices as part of their programming - Gaydio, Gorgeous Radio, Giltterbeam and Trans Radio UK for example, have been putting in extra effort for the month. They were joined for the day by BBC Radio 6Music, the BBC's "serious music" network. Guest presenters such as Tom Robinson curated with listeners' help, a wide ranging sweep of LGBTQIA artists and musical offerings that touch upon the themes of LGBTQ Pride. Of the stories that were shared, there was an early recording of David Bowie reporting how people reacted to his long hair in 1964, and a reflection on how groundbreaking Dusty Springfield was in 1970 when she said that women were just as likely as men to turn her head. Well done to everyone involved in broadcasting for this exciting month and in flying that rainbow flag high above the airwaves.
