In the US, the LGBTQ Task Force has come on a long way from its early days as the Lesbian and Gay Task Force. It now boasts corporate backing from groups such as Bacardi and Hilton. But that hasn't blunted its edge as being an organisation that lobbies hard - alongside other groups – for social change and representation. This month, the group has joined a coalition of activists who are asking the US Postal Department for stamps to honour black and latin heros of LGBTQ activism. Among the names suggested are Bayard Rustin, Marsha P Johnson and Sylvia Ray Rivera. “The National LGBTQ Task Force is thrilled to continue supporting this effort,” said Kierra Johnson, Executive Director, “This campaign recognizes the contributions that the trans and drag communities, particularly people of color who have given so much to the larger LGBTQ community and still do not have the visibility or credit they deserve. We already saw the tremendous success of the Harvey Milk stamp and encourage the U.S. Post Office to create more – and more diverse – representations of LGBTQ icons,” For more information, visit thetaskforce.org
