Journey out of Hate Group Documented on BBC

17/07/2021

Megan Phelps-Roper, a woman brought up in the notorious anti-Jewish and anti-gay “God Hates Fags” sect who are known as the Wesboro Baptists, documents her journey out of the hate group and towards tolerance and acceptance in wider society in a reading of her autobiography on BBC Radio 4 this week. The serialisation in fifteen minute segments makes her heavy and unpleasant subject matter digestible. Mr Phelps-Roper maintains that respectful and bridge building reaching out to her from the LGBTQ and secular communities in America helped her reach her decision to free herself from the violent cultists.
