On Christmas Eve, the progressive Christian organisation Ekklesia, which has always supported LGBTQIA Christians, reported that Symon Hill, the noted peace activist and spiritual affairs writer, was to be charged for the astonishing crime of being sarcastic. Mr Hill had quipped during a proclamation of the new King, Charles III, “Who elected him”? LGBTQIA activists are being urged to support Mr Hill, who once went on a pilgrimage to apologise for past Christian homophobia. Ekklesia director Simon Barrow said: “We fully support our friend and colleague Symon Hill in the face of this unnecessary and inappropriate charge. We hope the court will dismiss it, so that attention might then focus on who in the police and the CPS is wasting public money on such a frivolous prosecution.”
