Ruth Bader Ginsberg is a hero to many people who care about American democracy. She is described by the long standing Jewish community paper The Jewish Chronicle as being a left liberal voice on the Supreme Court. A new movie called “On the Basis of Sex” looks at how Bader Ginsberg became an acclaimed lawyer and worked to dismantle laws which discriminated against men or women just on the basis of their sex. Her first major civil rights case involved a man who was denied state support whilst he took on a caring role. Bader Ginsberg had a career leading the way on changing the laws which were gender segregated in the United States. She founded the Women's Rights Law Reporter, which campaigned on legal changes and challenges in the court system. Bader Ginsburg has been a long standing supporter of gay and lesbian equality and has even been asked to officiate at samesex weddings in recent years and in those parts of the US where such unions are possible.
