Listeners Mourn Passing of Gay Radio Star

26/12/2020

Radio listeners in the North West are mouring the death of  Umberto Saoncella, a gay radio personality who was popular with both listeners and other people in the industry. Known as just Umerto, the presenter passed away after a long term illness. He worked at a wide variety of networks including Piccadilly Radio and Real Radio amongst many others. Simon Cole told the media website RCS that ““Umberto was a rare talent. The chemistry he enjoyed with the other presenters, especially Susie Mathis in those glory days at Piccadilly was something special” . Ste Softely said “He had a giant heart”. Tributes poured in on social media from many colleagues and other broadcasters. Umberto is survived by his partner Bob.
