New Cultural Space for Bristol Gay Village

02/04/2022

B247 reports that Charlotte Philby, the granddaughter of the famous communist double agent, has purchased a former pub in the heart of Bristol’s gay village of Old Market with a view to opening it as a social space.  Ms Philby is an author and has picked up the empty number 17 Midland Road, which was a pub called the Grosvenor during the sixties and seventies.  She said “the idea is that we’re going to create a multi-purpose cultural space that will be available to some charities and some people who don’t have certain advantages in the creative industry.”  LGBTQIA bloggers gave a big thumbs up to Ms Philby’s plans for the diverse district.
