We always like to hear about gay friendly congregations, who give the lie to the claim by Christian fundamentalists that their religion condemns non-conformists gender, sexual or cultural. Hillhurst United Church in Calgary is part of the United Church of Canada, a welcoming denomination preaching God's love for all humans, regardless of individual characteristics. To help celebrate Pride Week, the church began to fly a variation on the traditional rainbow flag, which incorporates a chevron with black and brown stripes to represent People of Colour, and the traditional trans colours of powder blue, pale pink and white between them. This variation was designed by David Quasar in response to the Black Lives Matter initiative in the States and the design has been endlessly debated on LGBT websites. The Hillhurst church say that they have received many positive comments about flying the Quasar Pride flag and say that they will keep it on the flagpole, through the year.
