Pagan Origins of Xmas Explored by Paper

08/12/2018

With the holiday season approaching, the latest issue of Mature Times, the monthly free paper for the older community, which is published in Nailsea but has national reach, looks at the very pagan origins of many Christmas traditions. It was for example, only in AD 340 that the date of Christmas was set at December 25th, wisely, and practically expropriating the Roman festivals of the undying sun that had taken place on that date for hundreds of years. The history of Christmas pudding and the hanging of stockings is also explored. The Mature Times paper is available freely from libraries and community centres throughout our region.
