It's been a week where protests have been very much in the news. Anyone who reads the gay newswires will be aware of an issue at last weekend's Pride London, when a group of separatist lesbian-feminists took over the front of the march with a series of banners and leaflets attacking the existence of transgender women in society and within the movement. This event generated a lot of internet attention, but appears to have roundly backfired, with many LGBT groups and allied organisations including the office of the Mayor of London condemning the small group of lesbians who staged the stunt. In addition, the feminist protest meant that the start of the march, scheduled to have been LGBTQ frontline workers in the NHS, was obscured. This upstaging has, it seems, turned a lot of otherwise neutral observers against anti-trans feminism.
Meanwhile, many LGBTI activist groups have joined with the political left and trade unions amongst others in planning to protest against Donald Trump's visit to the United Kingdom. Left wing papers such as the Socialist and Socialist Worker, have published lists of actions that people can attend if they wish to register their opposition to the visit.
