LGBT Groups Participate in AntiTrump Uprising

15/07/2018

An LGBT and women’s movement that has sadly become fractured in recent weeks over the transgender politics issue, experienced a unifying boost last week, thanks to the visit of Donald Trump, the current President of the United States, whom even former Cabinet Minister Michael Heseltine described on the BBC Newsnight programme as a “disreputable” man!!  In London, LGBT groups that rarely work together came together under the auspices of the Stonewall banner.  It is rare for the largest gay lobby group to get involved in a demonstration, so shows how passionate feelings were.  In addition, there was a women’s bloc of protests, raising concerns over Mr Trump’s alleged misogyny.  These met and rendezvoused with a drag contingent of protestors, the traditional feminist objection to drag queens being put aside as campaigners united.  Other communities also experienced a unifying effect of the Trump visit.  The Jewish Chronicle newspaper reported that groups that are usually implacably split over the Israel-Palestine conflict came together under  a single banner.
