Poppers "Cause Retinal Damage" - Scientists

21/04/2017

The party high poppers, which have been a central part of gay men's social and sexual lives for the last fifty years, may cause damage to the retina which can lead to temporary sight problems. Rumours about poppers' health effects have persisted for decades, but it has been very difficult for users of the chemical to get any definitive health information. The most comprehensive local guide to poppers and health was published in the now defunct THT West Newsletter in about 2007. Now a team from Cheltenham have studied the eyes of men who use poppers and found what they described as a significant deterioration in a cluster of sight cells round the retina. The team suggested however, that their subjects' eyes recovered after they abstained from the use of poppers.
