Germans Discuss How to Cope with Nazi Threat

03/02/2024

The communist daily paper Morning Star reports that the Chancellor of Germany, Olaf Scholz, has sounded a clear alert over the plans of far right groups that are riding high in the polls.  A report by investigative journalist group Collectiv revealed that members of far right wing groups including the AFD Party and other groups, held a secret meeting to plan their assault on democracy during November.  They were plotting to deport millions of citizens of the country because they had originally been immigrants.  Chancellor Scholz wrote on the X social media site: “Anyone who opposes our free democratic order” is a case for Germany’s domestic intelligence office and the judiciary, adding that learning the lessons from Germany’s history should not just have been lip service."  Polling now puts the AFD in second place nationally with about 20 per cent support, far above the 10.3 per cent it won during the last federal election in 2021.
