Bristol has a large number of grass roots internet radio stations, including the drum and bass themed After Dark, the reggae positive vibes of Pigpen Radio and the multi-genre exploratory station Noods Radio, who broadcast from a local hostelry and must be one of the few radio stations in the UK to transmit from a pub, although we note that in the Netherlands, there is a lively culture of FM pirate radio stations who play traditional music from bars around the country. Anyway, these local projects were joined last week with the launch of a new specifically LGBTQIA+ radio station available through many online platforms. KUM FM went live on Thursday 29th February. The station says "Our goal is to shine a spotlight on bristols underground queer music scene". Dance Music magazine Mixmag said "K.U.M FM will broadcast weekly from Thursday to Sunday with "carefully curated daily shows that feature underground sounds, important conversations, event shoutouts and much more. a spokesperson for the station said that "the music played on the station will host a variety of genres and formats. This could range from indie punk bands to hard dance DJs and collectives. We will aim to focus our Friday and Saturday evening shows on the city's thriving nightlife scene. This will include genres such as techno, house, hardcore, jungle, electro, UK garage, dubstep, drum 'n' bass, ballroom and disco". Also promised are political discussions and features.
