The largest rainbow flag ever made in the UK toured ten towns in Cornwall on June 23rd as part of Pride Cornwall on tour. Gay Star News reported that the tour anticipates Pride Cornwall's main festival day which this year is in Newquay. For our overseas listeners, Cornwall is the UK's most south westerly county, jutting out into the Atlantic and blessed with a temperate climate, sandy beaches and breathtaking scenery. But it's also a Celtic Nation in its own right, with its own ancient language which is similar to Welsh, and its own national flag and politics. The Tour of the huge rainbow flag took eleven hours and took in the towns of Wadebridge, Launceston, Bodmin, St Austell, Heartlands, Hayle, Marazion and Penzance. The tour was sponsored by the Eden Project and First Kernow, as well as the international LGBT charity, Stonewall.
Incidentally, if you want to hear the Cornish language spoken, you can hear a weekly hour long programme on community stations Radio St Austell Bay, The Source in Falmouth and Coast FM in Penzance. The BBC broadcasts a news summary for 5 minutes every Sunday on BBC Radio Cornwall … Or look out for adverts for Kelly's Ice Cream on commercial TV, which use the langauage.
