Gay Activists Warn on Inflammatory Aus Remark

LGBT activists down under have expressed concern at the outburst of the Aussie Prime Minister, Scott Morrison, who described animal rights campaigners as “un Australian” and “green criminals”. The unstatesmanlike remarks have caused a wide variety of groups to express concern, regardless of their personal positions on the issue of animal wefare. Many LGBT campaigners are alarmed at the rhetoric which could so easily have been directed at gay people, particularly during the recent referendum on samesex marriage, which unleashed the vicious combined forces of reaction, the Australian church establishment and Christian extremists. Mr Morrison's comments follow protests across the country which blocked roads in various cities, including Melbourne. The Guardian newspaper reports that protests have linked up the issue of veganism and animal rights to those around climate change, whist some activists have taken direct action against abbatoirs.
