The President of the Czech Republic, a state which some Euro observers fear will follow Poland and Hungary into heterosexist despotism, has caused consternation amongst many political commentators with a remark that transgender people were “disgusting”. Milos Zeman, who is a close ally of Moscow, was defending Hungary's far right government, which is increasing persecution of all minorities, with LGBTQ people often being first in the proverbial firing line. Zeman attempted to salvage his remarks saying that he “understood” where gay and lesbian people came from but not transgender persons. Euronews Channel said that the European Union is beginning to question why money is still going to countries that flout the liberal values of the Union's founding states.
