Newsweek Magazine reports that Democratic Presidential Candidate Joe Biden has expressed his support for transgender young people in recent hustings ahead of the US vote in early November. Mr Biden was slammed by the usual screech of fundamentalist and hate groups, who even tried to overrun the Newsweek magazine comments threads with their ill informed rantings. However, Mr Biden was praised by many rights advocates, who noted that it was no surprise that Biden has taken this stance, given his long association with progressive policy platforms. The Washington based Human Rights Campaign tweeted that America “deserved a President who understands that trans and black lives matter”. Newsweek further noted that Mr Biden is a liberal Catholic in his personal faith and that this has infuriated the right wing of the church which opposes his support for women's reproductive freedom. But Biden has allies in groups such as Catholics for Free Choice and Dignity USA.
