Plans to Replace Manchester Trans Memorial

14/09/2022

Medway Pride Radio reports that irreparable damage was caused to the National Transgender Memorial, which exists in Sackville Gardens, in the heart of Manchester’s Gay Village area around Canal Street. The damage was caused during the Manchester Pride Weekend, although it is not yet clear from press releases from LGBTQIA community groups who is responsible for the damage and whether it was orchestrated by anti-transgender groups. As a consequence of the vandalism, the structure has become unsound and will need to be replaced. Trans Charity Sparkle reported that they had found that Manchester Pride representatives failed to arrange adequate security for the memorial. Sparkle say that they will work with the City Council to seek a way forward to replace the sculpture.
