A statue of Brian Epstein, the manager who smartened up the rag tag pop group the Beatles and catapaulted them to superstardom, has been unveiled in Liverpool. The BBC reports that the installation stands near the site of the NEMS Record Shop where Epstein started his career. Sir Paul McCartney has previously described the gay hero Epstein as the “Fifth Beatle” whilst Mr Epstein was also behind the success of much of the Mersey sound in the middle sixties including Cilla Black and Gerry and the Pacemakers. He died in August 1967, after an accidental overdose of sedatives. A film about his life, entitled Midas Man, and starring Eddie Marsan and Emily Watson, is due to be released soon after filming was carried out in Liverpool last year. https://www.thefifthbeatlestory.com/
