Tens of thousands of people marched with Pride in Wales as the Cardiff based Pride Cymru event took place on August Bank Holiday Saturday. There were no reports of any religious fundamentalist groups trying to disrupt the parade, but a small group of aggressive women attempted to halt the march with poorly made signs saying that Pride Cymru was anti-lesbian because it welcomed transgender women. Needless to say, the majority of lesbians present at Pride Cymru did not agree with this extreme position, and rejected the group, with some questioning whether any of the women were really lesbians anyway. They were moved on by Police and the parade was able to continue. The festival at a large Park by the city’s Castle was a success and entertainment enjoyed in glorious weather. BBC Wales news, BBC Radio Wales, BBC Radio Cymru, ITV Wales and Sianel Pedwar Cymru gave favourable coverage to the Pride event in Cardiff. Capital Radio South Wales was media partner and gave a huge build up to the event in its programming through the week.
