City and Rovers Unite to Support LGBTQ Laces

14/12/2020

In sports and local news, both Bristol City and Bristol Rovers, the two largest sports clubs in Bristol, have announced their participation in the English Football League's Rainbow Laces campaign. Bristol City blogs that “The Robins (which is the nickname for City) hosted Birmingham City at Ashton Gate in the Sky Bet Championship ) while City Women travelled to take on Reading in the WSL. The EFL said that rainbow corner flags and substitution boards were be used by clubs at their selected fixture to highlight their continued support for LGBT fans, players and staff across the game. In addition, the Bristol City You Tube channel interviewed Rob Parry-Hall, of the non league LGBTQ football club, Bristol Panthers. The need for a Rainbow Laces awareness campaign was underlined by the homophobes who took to Twitter to attack the English Football League and those clubs participating in the initiative.
