Up and Down for Queer Friendly Footie in West

19/05/2021

Martin Booth in the local newspaper B247 reports that there have been a mixed bag of feelings in women’s football in the lovely city of Bristol during the last few days.  On the same day that Bristol Rovers were declared champions of the Gloucestershire County Women’s Football League, Bristol City were relegated from the top flight Women’s Super League after a 3-1 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion.  Sadly for City Women, this will  mean they  move down to the semi-professional Championship.  Meanwhile, the left and progressive football teams, Easton Cowgirls and Cowboys, are preparing for the reopening of sports that should be well underway by this Autumn.  In the meantime, their lively Twitter feed continues to illuminate politics and culture.  Their most recent statement of solidarity is with protestors opposing the proposed Crime and Policing Bill.
