Sad Passing of Man who Tried to Be an "ExGay"

09/07/2021

The atheist magazine The Freethinker reveals this week that a supposedly “ex-gay” Christian man who had been involved for many years in the movement advocating religious conversion of LGBTQ people had taken his own life, whilst his wife has been taken into hospital suffering from a nervous breakdown. Barry Duke, writing for the Freethinker said that he was in tears even though he disagreed with the Christian path taken by thirty eight year old Steve Austin. Mr Austin revealed whom he thought had driven him to suicide in his last internet postings. He said “For the past three decades I've lived a lie, hoping to appease a group of people who only support you if you follow their rules and live up to their unfair expectations”. Barry Duke summarised that after this latest of many tragic loss of lives of people involved in the “ex-gay movement”, it was “imperative that we do all we can to destroy organisations like the Core Issues Trust”. Core Issues is the last group of any size that offers conversion therapy.
