The Progressive Christianity Network UK, which represents Britain's liberal and politically progressive Christian congregations, gives thanks this week for the astonishingly long life of former Episcopal American Bishop John Selby Spong. He was Bishop of Newark for twenty four years until his retirement in 2001. Accessible to the layperson, Mr Spong's writings have inspired many liberal Christians and also helped to make LGBTQ issues accessible to good people of faith. Mr Spong has helped there to be a good movement of Christians who stand against fundamentalism and hatred. Many of Mr Spong's writings are available online at the portal progressingspirit.com. He is wished a very happy ninetieth birthday by progressive and liberal Christians and by LGBTQ Chrsitians everywhere.
