Congratulations are due to the international group GALVA 108, an international federation of Hindu's, Vaishnavas and Krishna followers. They have just marked twenty years of supporting people who are LGBTQIA and followers of some of the most ancient religions in the world. They have just produced a joint videocast in conjunction with the Krishnas in the UK. The Krishna Consciousness Organisation, usually called the Hare Krishnas are an orgainsation of around a million followers worldwide, and were founded in 1966 by A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada . The Krishna Consciousness movement arrived at just the right time to interest many people looking for spiritual enlightenment through the hippie counterculture. It's vegetarian practices and envisaging of the godhead as a happy, jolly figure appealed to many. But its prohibition on all sex that is not procreative has been a stumbling block for many LGBTQIA people (and for that matter heterosexuals too). The video cast with Rajeev Lochanda Das looked at how to open Krishna up and make it welcoming for all, and how to reconcile differing beliefs about sex and sexuality. The Hare Krishna movement has had many celebrity followers and sympathisers over the years including George Harrison and Chrissie Hynde.
