Tonight, we send our greetings to LGBTQ Jewish people across the globe. At Sundown, on Friday evening, 18th September, is the Jewish New Year, or Rosh Hashanah. It is closely related to creation beliefs and is a festival day, during which people consume sweet foods to symbolize wishes for a sweet year to come. Candles are lit during the early evening and orthodox observers will desist from work. Rosh Hashanah is followed in the next few weeks by Yom Kippur, Sukkot and Simchat Torah and together these form a “holiday season” called “High Holidays”. You will find a link to a couple of LGBTQ and gay friendly Jewish groups on our newsfeed.
