Adam Rutherford, the CEO of Humanists UK, formerly the British Humanist Association, says that the organisation is broadly pleased with its performance in 2022, and has hopes for a more peaceful and prosperous year ahead in 2023. He writes “ It’s been a challenging year for everyone, with the war in Ukraine, cost of living crisis, and instability in government and public services causing disruption to our daily lives, forcing us to yet again adapt to new ways of living and working. But despite these challenges, we've seen some incredible achievements by the humanist community. We have seen more media coverage of Humanists UK and its campaigns than ever before. We’ve reached into every level of our political, education, and healthcare systems with our calls for positive social change, and we have been consistently sought for our trusted expertise and opinion”. Humanists UK have several campaigns continuing at the moment which will have particular resonance for LGBTQIA+ people. One of them is to pressure the government to act on illegal and often religiously extremist schools that are operating in many urban centres. The Humanist Movement has a long history of working on LGBTQIA civil rights and advocates a scientific, rational approach to society and economy, including a scientific understanding of the legitimacy and naturalness of sexual and gender diversity. https://humanists.uk/
