It's Christmas! As Noddy Holder shouts at the climax of “Merry Xmas Everybody”, Slade's 1973 single which is commonly considered one of the most successful festive records of all time. Mr Holder told Talk Sport Radio in 2010 that the single was his “life insurance policy and pension plan rolled into one!”. Christmas is an important secular festival, celebrated even in non-Christian countries such as Japan, where it is seen as an opportunity for gift giving and celebrations. For LGBTQ Christians, and there are many of them, the festival marks the birth of Jesus of Nazareth, considered by most Christian denominations to have been the son of God. We send our wishes to our LGBTQ Christian listeners and brethren the world over. Beneath are a few links to LGBTQ friendly Christian organisations, should you wish to explore this religion for yourself. We also note that many people find Christmas difficult, and perhaps a lonely time, when services close down and there is an expectation for people to gather in large family festivities. One consequence of the lockdown over Christmas 2020 is that this year, many people will feel what it is like to spend Christmas in smaller groups or alone. We remind you to make use of LGBTQ organisations, the helplines such as Switchboard, and of course, your community radio stations. Many of them will be live for at least part of the holiday season, so reach out and be entertained and supported.
