A verdict is expected late this week or early next in the case of a self-proclaimed Christian “defender of Biblical truth” campaigner who was let go of as a teaching assistant by a school in the County of Gloucestershire after launching into various fundamentalist Christian announcements on social media. Attitude Magazine reports that the woman, Kristie Higgs, had made numerous remarks online opposing same sex marriage, despite this having been legal in the UK and many other countries for years. She also adopted an anti-transgender stance, claiming before an employment tribunal that her God “made man and woman and it was good”. One campaigner took her to task on the internet, saying “so intersex people, animals who change sex and hermaphroditic species were made by whom, then?”. Higgs is being represented by an extremist organisation known as the Christian Legal Centre, which atheist campaigners regard as a fringe organisation. It has lost the majority of the claims of religious discrimination it has brought to law in recent years. LGBTQ people largely welcomed the decision of the school to terminate Higgs' employment. One man remarked on Tik Tok: “Schools have a duty to protect gay, trans, atheist and non-Christian children from fanatics”.
