Reclaiming the Night for Our Communities

Just as in the eighties, rises in homophobic and transphobic hate crime led to the creation of action groups such as OutRage! and the Lesbian Avengers, so a new generation of LGBTQIA people is turning fear and anger over the post-Brexit and post-Austerity surges in hate crime into activism. Queer Night Pride Bristol took place on Saturday 28th August from 10pm, meeting at Castle Park from 10pm and moving to hear speakers on College Green. In a statement on their website, the organisers of Queer Night Pride say NIGHT PRIDE (Is a protest). Not a demand for equality. Not a demand for better policing. Not a demand for mere tolerance and acceptance. We are revolting, and we will have true liberation!” . The Bristol demonstration took place the night after a similar event in London.
