“Manhunt” is the title of a Netflix documentary, available now, on the interception of far right extremist David Copeland whose attempts to terrorise the black, Asian and LGBTQ communities with nail bombs injured dozens and killed three in a spring time of horror in 1999, was thwarted by the unity of Londoners and the actions of police infiltrators into the far right wing. Colin Barr is the creator of the documentary. He speaks of the positive message that ultimately emerges. Copeland's stated attempts to create a race and anti-gay war in Britain fell flat on its face and he was handed down multiple life sentences for his crimes. “This kind of terrorism can never win” says Barr, and it is worth noting that the means of inflitrating the extreme right and other fundamentalist organisations was honed in this case, to mean that present day threats to LGBTQ people and other minority groups can be more easily neutralised.
