David Lammy, the Member of Parliament for Tottenham, London's most ethnic diverse constituency, and the son of Guyanese parents, is no stranger to the hate mail of racists and the more challenged users of the internet. Now, however, the MP has published a bizarre, grammatically poor and badly worded tirade he received from a deranged supporter of Anne Widdecombe, she of the anti-gay genocidal wishlist. The insane letter is full of racist epithets and what the writer obviously imagines are killer lines that will bring a black person their knees. Mr Lammy calmly responded online to the poisoned pen writer, pointing out the many factual and illogical conceits in their abuse. He has also passed the hate mail to the police and Royal Mail authorities. MPs are frequently targetted by right wing supporters, and another black MP, Diane Abbott last year revealed in the House of Commons the extent of the misogynist and racist abuse she has to deal with from people on the far right. Mr Lammy had criticised Ms Widdecome for her illconsidered portrayal of Britain as being a slave nation to the European Union. Widdecombe's remarks had also attracted criticism from across the BAME communities.
