In news local to us here in Bristol, the police are appealing for witnesses or intelligence after an inverted swastika, the symbol used by the Nazi Party of Germany, was spray painted on to a vehicle in Kingswood. The local community newspaper, The Week In, says that the vehicle was in the area of Waters Road. Superintendent Andy Benett from Avon and Somerset Police, is the force's lead on hate crime. He said “Following this incident we approached the Jewish Community Safety Trust who are satisfied that we are dealing with this in a correct and proper way”. The swastika symbol is offensive not to just to Jews, but to all those targetted by the far right wing, including LGBTQ people, black people, the disabled, communists, socialists and gypsy peoples. Superintendent Bennett reported that at this stage, there is no evidence that the owner of the car was deliberately targetted but that this was more random fascist graffiti. Intelligence is welcome on the Police non emergency number 101 and you can quote the reference number 5220221077.
