Hate Crime Is Met with Calls for Resistance

22/07/2021

ITV West has reported that an apparent hate crime took place on the night of Friday 2nd July, when heterosexual extremists attempted to graffiti over the rainbow Pride themed pedestrian crossing in Bristol's Wine Street. The black spray painted slogan was of a fundamentalist religious nature and a spokesperson for Bristol Pride noted that it demonstrated just what opinions were held by conservative religious groups and how LGBTQ visibility can counter their dogma. Some people on social media went further however. Whilst praising Avon and Somerset Constabulary for looking into the graffiti, one male blogger went further and called for direct action, protests and civil disobedience against religious groups that oppose LGBTQ human rights. The man said that the community had become complacent and that it needed to take the fight to its enemies.
