Dr Rakib Ehsan writes in the current issue of the “Jewish Chronicle's” web based newspaper, arguing that far right wing terrorism is now the “fastest growing” security threat to the United Kingdom. Dr Ehsan has published a new study into far right extremism, particularly as it affects Jewish communities, but the research also has relevance to other minorities including gypsies and LGBTQ people. For the extreme political right wing, all these groups are normally targetted in times of crisis, and the Covid19 pandemic is no exception to this. Dr Ehsan traces the deep historical roots of the type of prejudice that the extreme right wing groups are peddling, which date back to the Plague Pandemic of the thirteen forties, during which Jews, gypsies and heretical buggers were accused of deliberately poisoning good obedient God fearing Europeans. For some far right groups today, who accuse Jewish people of manufacturing Covid19 to further their aims, little has changed since that time. Doctor Ehsan also has some ideas on how to tackle the far right, including the careful dismantling of conspiracy theories online.
