The Diversity Trust, which provides training and education on all aspects of modern society and respect for our differences, has released a statement expressing concern over reports that the government is to go against the advice of its own scientists and scrap reforms to Gender Recognition legislation. A full statement has been prepared addressing the government and underlining why reforms to the Gender Recognition Act are important for trans people and is on the Diversity Trust websute. For now, a great rebuttal to the anti-trans lobby that currently has the ear of the government is provided by our colleague Cherly Morgan, activist, speaker and a presenter on one of our sister media projects, the African-Caribbean led community station Ujima Radio. Cheryl addresses herself to the largely discredited argument that transwomen want access to women's spaces to attack defenceless women. She eloquently writes:
“As a trans woman I have been using women’s spaces for over 20 years without any trouble. Characterisation of people like me as a danger to women is stressful, harmful and hurtful and will damage many trans people, especially young trans people. We need to be supporting trans and non-binary people not demonising them.” Cheryl Morgan, Diversity Trust, Director.
