Amanda Liberty, a woman with objectum sexuality, which refers to humans falling in love with inanimate objects, appears in a Dutch newspaper called De Stem. The paper reported that the UK based Ms Liberty had failed to bring a complaint to the Independent Press Standards Organisation, an organisation which most LGBTQ people will feel is somewhat toothless, after an article in the Sun newspaper spent most of its column inches ridiculing her. Liberty has several inanimate items of furniture with which she feels an erotic and emotional attraction. The IPSO ruling was that the Sun article was “offensive and somewhat disturbing” but did not break any particular code of journalistic practice because, unlike samesex attraction or bisexuality, objectum sexuality is not usually considered to be covered by press codes, or equalities laws. Ms Liberty told the Dutch paper “ I don't expect everyone to just accept it, because I know that there are many different orientations in the world and even gays, lesbians and transgenders (sic) struggle to be accepted. ”
