Standing up to Body Fascism

14/03/2022

The North Wales Daily Post says that a woman from Essex is hitting back at misogynistic heterosexual males who verbally abuse larger size women in the streets. Jaz Harris who is twenty nine and from Chelmsford, has set herself up in business as a plus size model, and already has worked for brands including Schuh and Facebook. Jaz has recently given birth, and she and her boyfriend are delighted at their new arrival. Jaz wants to challenge the idea that women need to “bounce back” and lose weight after a birth, and instead is loving her curves. She says that she does not let rude comments by men upset her, but notes that it is part of the heterosexual male psyche that believes that men have the right to insult and verbally attack women who don’t fit with their desires. “Nobody should have to put up with hate speech – whether it’s about their appearance, their sexuality or their ethnicity,” Jaz said.
